Course Description

This is an introductory to intermediate level course that highlights the synergy between plant chemistry and material corrosion and degradation. The focus is on CANDU systems, where the objectives of chemistry control, chemistry best practices, corrosion issues and outcomes, and corrosion monitoring and mitigation strategies are covered.

Course Outcome

By the end this course, the participant shall gain:

  • Introduction to relevant chemistry basics
  • Introduction to chemistry specifications for several major CANDU systems
  • Knowledge of the mechanisms of some of the main forms of corrosion that affect the systems discussed
  • Understanding of past and present corrosion monitoring and mitigation strategies
  • Appreciation for the relationship between the chemistry, design, and materials of construction in CANDU systems
